One of the largest providers of ultrasound image enhancement software will make its product available for hand-held mobile phone-based ultrasound devices running on Apple iOS operating system.

The company signed a contract for the new version that will allow users in the field and at point-of-care to make use of the advanced image processing software on their hand-held devices.

ContextVision, Stockholm (Stockholm, Sweden) developed the US PLUSView image enhancement software. ContextVision also develops image enhancement software for 2D/3D/4D ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), mammography and X-Ray systems.

As ultrasound devices become smaller, users outside of radiology departments also need access to high-quality images. The image enhancement software enables clinicians to perform accurate and fast diagnoses using hand-held devices, by providing improved edge enhancement and margin continuity, soft tissue differentiation, efficient line connectivity, and improved line/edge conspicuity and grayscale contrast.

Fredrik Palm, VP OEM Business, at ContextVision, said, “Compact ultrasound devices offer a number of significant advantages to point-of-care providers, including ease of operation, lower costs and reduced energy consumption, making this a rapidly growing market segment that ContextVision can easily address. ContextVision is taking major steps toward high quality images on smaller devices, and mobile device platforms like iOS and Android are increasingly becoming the platforms of choice to extend high quality care beyond the hospital. It’s a great match for us.”
