A novel radiation exposure reduction solution designed for interventional X-ray imaging benefits both patients and staff.

The Omega Medical Imaging (OMI; Sanford, FL, USA) FluoroShield system combines the power of artificial intelligence (AI), an ultra-fast collimator, and an advanced image-processing platform to reduce radiation exposure--by up to 84%--in the region of interest (ROI). Utilizing AI, the system automatically collimates to the ROI, taking full field of view (FOV) images on a reduced number of frames. Through advanced image processing, it simultaneously and seamlessly integrates the ROI with the FOV image, reducing radiation exposure to the anatomy round the ROI.

Features include 360° lead shielding protection on the image detector and below the table for compete scatter radiation protection; an endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP) table with 10-way motorized motions that can support patients weighing up to 360kg; a rotating C-Arm that can be turned +/- 90 degrees out of the way toward the head or foot of the table, providing full 360-degree access to the patient for emergencies, non-fluoro studies, and patient loading. The fully motorized C-arm and table are integrated and controlled from a single panel to facilitate imaging, draining, and patient positioning.

“The Omega FluoroShield system allows interventionalists to maintain the critical view of the peripheral anatomy awhile drastically reducing their patient’s exposure to ionizing radiation. The advantages are immediately obvious – superior image quality and lower radiation exposure to patients and to staff,” said Brian Fleming, president of OMI. “FluoroShield is a critical piece of our innovation pipeline of solutions, aimed at helping our partners deliver the best in patient outcomes and efficiencies.”
