Scatter Correction Algorithm Enhances Digital Radiography DR Exams with a Grid

A new scatter correction algorithm can provide high chest image contrast without grid handling.

When doing digital radiography (DR) exams without a grid, Philips Healthcare’s (Best, The Netherlands) SkyFlow generate images with grid-like contrast. It reduces the effect of scattered radiation for non-grid bedside chest exams, providing excellent DR image quality without grid handling, thereby avoiding the time and effort associated with having to attach and detach a grid for portable chest exams.

SkyFlow key benefits include: saving time with gridless workflow and benefit from automatic image contrast enhancement; excellent DR image quality with grid-like contrast for all patient types, including bariatric; and the user can focus completely on the patient with automatic operation, short exam times, and comfortable positioning. The SkyFlow scatter correction algorithm for portable thorax X-rays requires no operator input. It delivers contrast enhancement based on the amount of scatter for the individual patient.

Using a proprietary intelligent software algorithm, SkyFlow identifies scatter signal and automatically applies correction immediately. Therefore, it is suitable for a wide range of patient types, and particularly beneficial for bariatric patients.

With SkyFlow used in combination with the large SkyPlate, one can dedicate full attention to patients because there is no need to prepare the SkyPlate with an anti-scatter grid, positioning is comfortable, exam times are short, and by eliminating the grid, retakes can be eliminated caused by grid misalignment.
