A global medical equipment provider has released an updated version of hand-carried ultrasound device with additional transducers and improved imaging capabilities.

The new device is intended for use in emergency facilities, and for cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and obstetrics/gynecology, and general imaging purposes.

The upgraded HM70A with Plus device was developed by Samsung Medison (Seoul, Republic of Korea), and includes the new hockey-stick transducer for diagnosis of bones and tendons, an upgraded S-Vue curved array and volume transducer for difficult cases, and a Trans-Esophageal Echocardiogram (TEE) transducer. The HM70A with Plus also features strain and stress echo scanning capabilities, and the Samsung MultiVision imaging enhancer that provides improved spatial and contrast resolution. The battery life of the upgraded device has also been extended to a maximum of 4.5 hours when used in conjunction with the optional cart.

The upgraded S-Vue transducer provides improved sensitivity and simplified visualization for difficult cases. The strain echo feature shows both left ventricular motion and dyssynchrony concurrently, using graphic segmental analysis. The stress echo feature enables the creation of customizable reports.

Samsung plans to release the HM70A with Plus in Europe, the US and Korea by the end of 2015. A release in Brazil, Russia, and China is planned for 2016.

Soo-in Cho, CEO of Samsung Medison, said, “A globally acclaimed HM70A now aims to offer higher usability and efficiency to professionals as HM70A with Plus. Our mission has been solely on ensuring diagnostic confidence anywhere user goes. Samsung Medison reaffirms its commitment and vision to develop ultrasound devices that fit the need of healthcare providers in every aspect.”
