Imaging Dynamics Co. (IDC, Calgary, Canada) has signed an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement with VMI Sistemas Medicos (VMI) in Brazil to integrate the IDC Xplorer imaging detector into its range of digital x-ray products.

VMI is the largest manufacturer and distributor of x-ray equipment in Brazil, with a network of over 25 dealers in Brazil and 20 satellite dealers worldwide. "VMI has been devoted to developing x-ray products designed to reflect Brazil's marketplace, and the IDC solution is the best way to develop DR [digital radiography] products suitable for Brazil,” noted Otavio Moraes, assistant general ORM manager, VMI.

This OEM agreement complements IDC's distributorship plan within Brazil. In June 2005, IDC launched into Latin America by participating in the HospitalAR show in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The IDC product range is now represented by NovoMedica, Inc. (Sao Paulo, Brazil), which has dropped a competitive DR line to carry the Xplorer DR systems. "We looked at the quality and value in the IDC offering before we switched. The level of interest we received at the show confirmed that we have made a good choice,” said Cesar Rodriguez Nicolino, director, NovoMedica.

"Latin America, particularly Brazil with 200 million people, cannot be ignored. These countries are in the early stages of transition to digital imaging. The IDC value proposition for these countries positions our DR technology at the forefront of any decision to replace film. As an example, IDC recently became the first vendor in the world to place DR into Colombia, and having just returned from Argentina, we are looking forward to delivering their first ever DR units,” said Darryl Stain, president and CEO, IDC.
