An innovative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) device uses patient-centered technology to simplify and shorten workflows and boost productivity, reproducibility, and patient satisfaction.

At the core of the Siemens Healthineers (Erlangen, Germany) Magnetom Lumina 3T MRI System is Turbo Suite, a suite of three software packages with unique parallel imaging, multi-slice, and compressed sensing technologies. The suite is comprised of Turbo Suite Essential, which leverages high element density coils and unique parallel imaging techniques to deliver routine exams in 10-15 minutes, using the power of CAIPIRINHA, a proprietary parallel imaging technique which enables higher scan speeds and optimal image reconstruction with better signal quality.

The second package is Turbo Suite Excelerate, which transforms care delivery with unique acceleration technologies such as simultaneous multi-slice and compressed sensing for static two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) imaging, for neurological, orthopedic, and body MRI. Lastly, Turbo Suite Elite leverages the full potential of compressed sensing for dynamic and free-breathing examinations, such as full free-breathing liver dynamics and cardiac function, which can be captured in one short scan, under free-breathing, even for the most challenging patients.

Magnetom Lumina also offers other innovations, including BioMatrix technology, which several patient sensors to improve setup time and exam strategy. Respiratory sensors in the patient table remove the need for navigators with respiratory-triggered sequences; kinetic sensors based on an in-bore camera system enable technologists to visually monitor the patient’s face; and artificial intelligence (AI) and body models speed patient positioning and deliver consistent, reproducible results in head, neck, and spine imaging, using distortion-mitigating software and hardware.

“With the Magnetom Lumina, Siemens Healthineers is transforming care delivery by providing high performance with a strong return on investment,” said Jane Kilkenny, vice president of MRI at Siemens Healthineers North America. “The patient experience is enhanced with a state-of-the-art infotainment system, lightweight and flexible coils, and new speed applications that enable the provider to get the patient on and off the table faster.”

Magnetom Lumina also puts patients at greater ease through the Innovision in-bore infotainment system, which is designed to move with the scanner table to not only create the illusion of an enlarged bore, but also to provide a unique video experience with excellent sound quality.
