Although several medical device industry groups exist in Brazil, none are focused on the specialized needs of the medical imaging and radiation therapy industry. Members from a US medical imaging and technology alliance have been establishing and growing their presence in Brazil in recent years, reflecting trends indicating Brazil’s maturing market for diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy equipment.

The Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA; Washington DC, USA) reported on a successful week of meetings in August 2014 with Brazilian regulators, health officials, and industry stakeholders on the regulatory and commercial priorities for the medical imaging and radiation therapy industry in Brazil.

“The market for medical imaging and radiation therapy technology in Brazil has grown rapidly over the past decade” said Gail Rodriguez, executive director of MITA. “The relationships we are establishing will pave the way for open communication between MITA, our member companies, and Brazilian regulatory agencies, ultimately increasing patient access to the most innovative medical technologies.”

The MITA, a division of NEMA, is the collective voice of medical imaging equipment, radiation therapy and radiopharmaceutical manufacturers, innovators and product developers. It represents companies whose sales comprise more than 90% of the global market for medical imaging and radiation therapy technologies.
