Mammography Suite Designed to Ease Fears

A new mammography suite is an all-encompassing interactive experience designed to help make mammography scanning a less fearsome undertaking.

SensorySuite is designed to stimulate a woman’s senses to distract her from the perceived discomfort, pain, and anxiety of a mammogram. SensorySuite lets the patient choose the environmental atmosphere the patient prefers for the mammogram: garden, seaside, and waterfall.

Mammography exams can be perceived as uncomfortable, worrisome, and intimidating. One-fourth of all women avoid mammograms out of fear. Designed to stimulate a woman’s senses simultaneously, SensorySuite can divert the patient from the perceived discomfort, pain, discomfort, and anxiety. The aim of the suite is to reassure women to get screening mammograms on a regular basis.

Developed by GE Healthcare (Chalfont St. Giles, UK), the suite features decorative wall panels and a bookmark with a scented bracelet. To help bolster the experience, the patient can also visualize her SensorySuite experience on a tablet personal computer (PC) while she waits for her exam.

In the exam suite, the air is infused with a light, calming fragrance, while flat-screen wall monitors display soothing videos and photos, and project relaxing sounds, of her selected ambiance.

SensorySuite is available for use with existing or new GE Senographe Essential, Senographe Care or Senographe DS systems.
