Turkey has booked an order for multiple modern linear accelerators for public and private hospitals in the cities of Ankara, and Mersin, from the world leader in radiotherapy and radiosurgery equipment and software.

The advanced radiotherapy equipment is intended for treating cancer patients, and will be delivered between June 2016 and the end of 2017. The company has already booked orders for more than 20 such linear accelerators from Turkish hospitals to date this year.

Varian Medical Systems (Palo Alto, CA, USA) was selected to supply two TrueBeam systems and Turkey’s first VitalBeam platform. The TrueBeam system can dynamically synchronize imaging, motion management, patient positioning, and treatment during radiotherapy or radiosurgery. VitalBeam offers high-quality, high-throughput radiation therapy.

Turkey has a population of 79 million, and there are more than 175,000 new cancer cases every year. Turkey already has around 240 radiotherapy and radiosurgery treatment systems.

Area sales manager of Varian Medical Systems, Jiri Bocanek, said, "The Turkish government has made a real commitment to invest in modern radiotherapy systems and we are pleased that they have selected Varian systems to help treat the country's growing cancer population."
