The latest contrast delivery and management innovation from Bayer HealthCare takes the form of the Medrad MRXperion magnetic resonance Injection System, launched at the European Congress of Radiology 2015 in Vienna (Austria).

Bayer (Leverkusen, Germany) has begun to introduce the product in select countries with commercial availability expanding this summer and regulatory clearances are received. “Bayer was proud to have brought the first power injector to the radiology suite and now this next generation MR injector can help to set global standards for improved patient care and quality,” said Christiane Pering, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Innovation within Bayer HealthCare’s Medical Care division.

Bayer HealthCare took us through the reasons why customers were already singing its praises.

The Medrad MRXperion provides the tools to improve workflow efficiency in the MRI suite, while accurately recording and reporting MR-contrast-enhanced procedure data. The control panel allows an operator to customize the protocol comprising the patient data, information on injection site, the catheter gauge, and saline and contrast agent levels can be added. Another logical feature with the workstation is a protocol manager. “It is important that organizations can accurately repeat specific contrast dose injection protocols and ensure enterprise-wide protocol compliance, allowing healthcare professionals to spend more time focused on patient care,” said Per Edlund, Head of Region Europe for Bayer’s Radiology business. “The MRXperion features on-board eGFR and weight-based contrast dosing calculators, and combining these calculators on the device improves efficiency and helps support patient safety initiatives.”

MRXperion is also the first MR injector to connect with the Radimetrics Enterprise Platform to build standard informatics and consistency across the MRI and CT suites, meaning that radiologists have readily available combined information on patient histories, contrast analytics, and radiation dose levels.

Another defining feature is that the test injection can be set from the scanner site. Other features include a capacity for keeping the vein open and ensuring the line is free. The control screen also provides information on whether the contrast agent and saline have been delivered.

The Medrad MRXperion Injection System is Bayer’s newest innovation for injecting contrast media in the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) suite. MRXperion provides customers with tools to improve work flow efficiency through Protocol management, Snap-on / twist-off syringe design for easy syringe / tubing attachment and removal, Auto plunger advance and retract when attaching and detaching syringes, Automatic filling and priming, Injection / post-injection reminders, and On-board calculators for eGFR and weight-based dosing.
