New X-ray Tubes Enable a Resolution Revolution

Novel geometric-magnification X-ray imaging systems offer a host of features designed to provide high quality imaging.

The Excillum (Kista, Sweden) NanoTube N2 high-resolution X-ray tubes, available in both 60 kV and 110 kV configurations, are based on advanced electron optics and tungsten-diamond transmission target technology. Automatic e-beam focusing and astigmatism correction ensures that the smallest possible, truly round spot is achieved. With a 150 nm resolution, an imaging speed that is more than three times faster than its predecessor, the NanoTube N1, is possible; and with the increase in flux, measurement time is reduced from 15 to four hours.

The NanoTube N2 also has a unique feature of internally measuring and reporting current spot size; and thanks to an advanced e-beam system and integrated thermal control, excellent long-term stability is achieved over long exposures. Other features include internal absolute spot size measurement; a long-life cathode; variable spot size and power set points with unchanged spot position; and a cone-shaped front for excellent geometrical access to X-ray spot.

“We are very excited to launch our latest development, the NanoTube N2, that will provide both industries and research facilities with an on premise X-ray source with unprecedented resolution and imaging speed,” said Björn Hansson, CEO of Excillum. “The NanoTube N2 will open up new possibilities for all applications requiring the ultimate X-ray resolution.”

The NanoTube N2 is specifically targeted towards an advanced research and development department, as well as inspection and non-destructive testing (NDT) of components in e.g. automotive, aerospace, medical, electronics and semiconductor back end, to find and analyze hidden features.
