New Positioning Platform Improves Imaging Efficiencies

A novel patient positioning solution specializes in obtaining multiple weight-bearing views of the lower extremities.

The Clear Image Devices (Caledonia, MI, USA) Multiview Positioning Platform is designed to obtain multiple weight-bearing full weight-bearing anteroposterior (AP) lateral, oblique, and other anatomical views of the lower limbs in minutes. A combination of four imaging-panel placement locations and two grab bars that provide patient stability make it easy for radiology staff to position patients weighing up to 350 kg quickly and safely, including those with mobility issues.

Other features include easy portability due to built-in rollers and grab bars, a sturdy construction made of a germ-resistant, nonporous material that cleans easily, and proven compatibility with virtually all digital radiography (DR) and computed radiography (CR) systems, including systems form Siemens, Ysio, GE Flash Pad, Philips Wireless, GE, Canon, Carestream, Fuji, Konica Minolta Aero, AGFA, Shimadzu, and Samsung.

“We created the Multiview in collaboration with a leading medical imaging facility. It is designed to eliminate considerable patient movement and costly retakes, and improve patient satisfaction,” said Ellen Mooney, manager of Clear Image Devices. “The Multiview Positioning Platform cuts imaging time in half. It allows radiographers to obtain multiple views in minutes to save significant time for lower-extremity studies. Early feedback from radiographers indicates that the platform works perfectly and is saving them valuable time.”

Patients presenting for radiology procedures are often older, more obese and suffer from a range of comorbidities that inhibit correct positioning, an important factor in attaining quality diagnostic images and ensuring patient safety and comfort. Advances in radiology often necessitate lengthier and more multifaceted procedures; when combined with complex patients, increased risk of negative respiratory events, cardiovascular compromise, and nerve and soft tissue injury, the result is often evident in awkward positioning, injury and other complications.
