A healthcare IT company that specializes in interoperability of enterprise imaging systems has deployed a network appliance to provide a flexible teleradiology service in parts of Australia with a low-bandwidth networking infrastructure.

Nearly 33% of Australia's population has limited access to medical services, suffer from unique Internet Technology (IT) challenges, and is also faced with a rapidly aging population.

The Dicom Systems (Campbell, CA, USA) Enterprise Imaging Workflow Unifier network was deployed by Alpenglow Australia (Sydney, NSW, Australia) as a teleradiology technology enabler. Alpenglow is a radiology practice that uses a distributed Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), and teleradiology to provide medical services in Australia.

Dicom Systems has also deployed the Unifier appliance in Europe and Africa, as part of an expansion of global installations of the system in 2017. Alpenglow Australia worked with Dicom Systems’ to build custom interfaces, and scripts, and the system provides a dependable terminator point for workflows, and a patient identifier master database.

Dicom Systems enterprise imaging solutions include SSL-based DICOM and HL7 integration tools, simple smart routing, and vendor neutral archiving.

President and CTO of Dicom Systems, Dmitriy Tochilnik, said, "Our joint collaboration with the exceptional technical team at Alpenglow resulted in powerful 'mini applications,' which really speaks to the customizable functionality of the Unifier. We are proud that the Unifier is an instrumental appliance in connecting different platforms and providers, and in the case of Alpenglow, connecting the farthest corners of Australia."
