Two TomoTherapy systems installed in Algeria, the first systems in the Africa continent, have begun treating cancer patients.

The advanced radiation treatments that can provide extremely precise treatments for a wide range of cancers are installed in a new radiotherapy and medical oncology center in Sidi Abdellah, in Algeria.

Accuray installed the TomoTherapy Systems at the Radiotherapy and Medical Oncology Center (Sidi Abdellah, Algiers, Algeria). The center has also purchased a third TomoTherapy System, and an Accuray CyberKnife M6 System that will be installed by the end of 2018.

The TomoTherapy System is based on a Computed Tomography (CT) platform and can provide accurate 360-degrees radiation delivery, or use clinician-specified beam angles, and daily 3D image guidance. The system provides standard radiation therapy for breast, prostate, head and neck, and lung cancers, as well as total marrow irradiation.

Corporate SVP and President of Worldwide Commercial Operations at Accuray, Lionel Hadjadjeba, MD, said, "We are honored that the Radiotherapy and Medical Oncology Center team has selected the Accuray systems to expand their cancer treatment options. Their decision reinforces growing global recognition of the importance of radiation therapy in treating cancer. The TomoTherapy and CyberKnife Systems provide an optimal combination of efficacy and safety while minimizing the impact of treatment on daily lives, and will enable the clinical team to confidently provide each cancer patient with a treatment program that addresses his or her individual needs."
