A medical equipment manufacturer that developed the world’s first mobile Digital Radiology (DR) system has launched a new radiographic table system, and an optional series of new advanced applications including tomosynthesis, advanced auto-stitching, and dual energy subtraction.

The system is intended to support chest, abdomen, joint, and bone imaging for orthopedic surgery, and also for initial diagnosis for various diseases.

Shimadzu Medical Systems USA (Torrance, CA, USA) a subsidiary of Shimadzu Corporation (Kyoto, Japan) announced the release of the RADspeed Pro Edge package, that includes the RADspeed Pro radiographic table system, and the optional EDGE set of advanced applications.

The RADspeed Pro EDGE package includes the usability and functionality benefits of its predecessors. These include reduced radiation exposure, tomosynthesis for capturing cross-sectional images after a single tomographic scan, soft and bone tissue imaging using dual energy subtraction, and auto-stitching for long-view images of the spine or lower extremities. The new Bucky table can be used to acquire images in the supine position up to 120 cm in length, while the Bucky stand can be used to acquire long-view images up to 160 cm in length.

Shimadzu also provides a separate, optional proprietary tomosynthesis workstation dedicated to carrying out tomosynthesis image reconstruction. This frees-up the image processing console for image acquisition, resulting in shorter waiting times and examination times, and an increased patient throughput.
