A new X-ray radiation survey sensor has been presented at the 2015 European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in Vienna (Austria).

The sensor helps protect technicians, medical staff and patients from unnecessary radiation by providing precise survey measurements in the X-ray energy range, and can perform leakage and scatter measurements in diagnostic X-ray applications.

The RaySafe X2 Survey sensor was developed by Unfors RaySafe (Billdal, Sweden), a division of Fluke Biomedical (Everett, WA, USA), and a global leader of X-ray quality assurance solutions. Fluke Biomedical is a global provider of test and measurement equipment, and services to the healthcare industry.

The RaySafe X2 Survey sensor design is silicon-based and does not use a pressurized ion-chamber, which simplifies storage and transport. The Survey sensor features manual and automatic trigger modes that enable the sensor to capture low dose-rate measurements in an X-ray machine's primary beam. The Survey sensor can also switch energy response between Air Kerma (Gy or R) and Ambient Dose Equivalent (Sv).
