New computed tomography (CT) systems are designed to comply with the new the Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA) XR-29 standard.

Siemens Healthcare (Erlangen, Germany) announced that every new system in its Somatom CT product line, which includes the Somatom Definition Flash, Somatom Emotion, Somatom Definition AS Family, Somatom Definition Edge, and the Somatom Perspective—complies with MITA XR-29 Standard Attributes on CT Equipment Related to Dose Optimization and Management.

Siemens worked closely with MITA to develop the new XR-29 standard, also known as MITA Smart Dose. XR-29 bundles four major features of CT equipment designed to aid physicians and technologists in enhancing and managing radiation dose: Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) Dose Structured Reporting (DICOM SR), preloaded pediatric and adult reference protocols, automated exposure controls (Siemens’ Care Dose4D [four-dimensional] feature), and CT Dose Check (Siemens’ Dose Alert and Dose Notification features).

Agenda 2013, Launched in November 2011, is an initiative of the Siemens Healthcare Sector to additionally strengthen its innovative power and competitiveness. Specific measures, which will be implemented by the end of 2013, have been defined in four fields of action: innovation, competitiveness, regional footprint, and people development.
