Supporting a full range of routine radiography at a cost-effective price, a new digital radiography system features innovative components such as a digital cassette-sized flat-panel detector, height-adjustable table with a 300 kg weight capacity, and a touch screen at the overhead tube suspension for exam parameter changes at the patient’s side.

Siemens Healthcare (Erlangen, Germany) has announced that the Multix Fusion digital radiography system has received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is now commercially available in the United States. With a high level of effective and attractive service contracts that help keep its operating costs comparatively low, the Multix Fusion combines innovation and price competitiveness--two components of Siemens Healthcare’s Agenda 2013 global initiative. The analog version of the Multix Fusion was introduced in March 2012.

“Siemens understands the challenges facing healthcare providers and is committed to being a solutions-oriented partner for our customers,” said Gerhard Schmiedel, vice president of X-ray products at Siemens Healthcare. “The Multix Fusion provides leading digital radiography technology that gives customers outstanding image quality and improved clinical workflow while being sensitive to current financial and healthcare reform challenges.”

The Multix Fusion is designed to help users easily position patients on the system or move the digital detector to accommodate patient location. The detector has nearly unlimited positioning flexibility, covering most routine applications. The system provides excellent image contrast with its DiamondView Plus on-board post-processing tool, and the automated image processing parameter provides settings based on organ programs.

A 1.8-meter-long telescopic column allows the tube to be pulled down directly above the floor even in rooms with high ceilings, so patients can avoid climbing onto the table for examinations such as foot images. The ergonomic, height-adjustable table facilitates patient positioning and can hold up to 300 kg.

With the Multix Fusion, customers can choose from several system variants, depending on their requirements. Options range from the simplest version with ceiling-mounted tube and cassette to the complete digital X-ray system, which includes the cassette-sized flat-panel detector, table, and wall stand.
