Portable Direct Radiography System Provides Easy Viewing at POC

A new portable radiography system enables point-of-care (POC) treatment for patients.

Agfa HealthCare (Mortsel, Belgium) reported that it would present versatile, direct radiography (DR)-imaging systems at the AAMI 2012, the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation Conference & Expo, June 2-4, 2012, in Charlotte (NC, USA). Focused on the development and delivery of DR systems that meet the high quality standards in medical imaging, Agfa HealthCare offers a full range of digital imaging systems to meet various budgets, environments, and clinical applications requirements.

“Today’s imaging centers, hospitals, and government facilities demand portable technology that can serve a broad range of radiographic patient needs along with quick, easy image viewing for assessment at the point of care,” said Greg Cefalo, US digital radiography business-unit manager, Agfa HealthCare US. “That’s exactly what Agfa HealthCare delivers with the powerful combination of the DX-D 100 digital X-ray system, Musica2 image processing, and NX workstation-with much needed cost savings, too.”

The fully motorized, portable DR X-ray unit, the DX-D 100, brings imaging to the field, enabling DR quality images to be captured in remote environments, at the patient bedside, or any place where space is limited. Due to its ergonomic design, the DX-D 100 is easily moved and operated by a single person, for improved quality and efficiency of bedside imaging. It provides immediate previews and advanced resolution for a wide range of general radiography X-ray studies.

Inherent to every DR solution is Musica2, Agfa HealthCare’s gold standard image processing software for excellent image quality, which makes use of the company’s established NX platform for a smooth workflow. The exam independent imaging processing software automatically analyzes each image, optimizing processing parameters and generating consistent, excellent image results. The software can also improve the overall visibility of clinically pertinent structures, making especially low contrast details more easily apparent.

The smooth workflow of Agfa HealthCare’s NX Workstation enables connectivity with picture archiving and communication systems (PACS), hospital information systems (HIS), and radiology information systems (RIS). When a user selects an exam, the X-ray settings are automatically transferred to the generator and displayed on the touch-screen console. This control tool facilitates improved interoperability, convenience, and speed for “anytime, anywhere” care delivery. “For departments needing to ‘do more with less,’ our focus on workflow provides the efficiency needed to lower exam costs and enable better communication between physicians,” said Mr. Cefalo. “The government sector, especially, can benefit from the integration elements we’ve put in place.”

Agfa HealthCare’s additional offerings in the DR market include the DX-D 300, DX-D 400, DX-D 500n, and DX-D 600 along with cesium iodide (CsI) and gadolinium oxy-sulphide (GOS) detectors for every system.
