Versatile, Compact CR System Developed for a Wide Range of Applications

A convenient and cost-effective computed radiography (CR) system has been designed for mammography and general radiography applications.

Agfa HealthCare (Mortsel, Belgium) launched its new CR 30-Xm system at European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2012, held March 1-5, 2012, in Vienna (Austria). With this CR solution, lower-volume hospitals and private practices can benefit from the workflow advantages of digital radiography, for both mammography and general radiography.

The CR 30-Xm is a compact system that can handle both mammography and general radiography applications, including full leg/full spine (FLFS). It has been specially designed to offer the same image quality as Agfa HealthCare’s existing CR systems, including the Musica2 image processing, at a cost-effective price that additionally lowers obstacles to digital X-ray.

The CR 30-Xm fits into limited spaces, including the X-ray room, and can be incorporated into mobile facilities, making it suitable for initiatives such as mobile breast screening. It requires no special electrical outlet installation, while the modular design offers easy maintenance, keeping total cost of ownership low.

For mammography, the CR 30-Xm offers images with very fine 50-micrometer pixel definition. Similar to all of Agfa HealthCare’s CR systems, it comes with Agfa HealthCare’s Musica2 image processing software and NX workstation. Musica2 analyzes each image and automatically applies the appropriate image enhancement parameters independent of the exam type, while the NX workstation provides very fast image acquisition and a smooth workflow. Workflow is additionally enhanced by embedded memory in the cassettes, which links ID data and images throughout the entire electronic processing system.

The launch of the CR 30-Xm supports Agfa HealthCare’s focus on providing a complete solutions range that meets the specific needs of any healthcare facility, regardless of size, workflow design, or budgetary considerations.

“We are pleased and proud of the launch of CR 30-Xm, our new digital radiography solution for both mammography and general radiography,” commented Dirk Debusscher, vice president of imaging at Agfa HealthCare. “We are committed to providing the highest image quality standards required for mammography, in our CR solutions. Our affordable and compact CR 30-Xm has been designed using proven Agfa HealthCare technology: We now have some 40,000 CR installations around the world, about 4,000 of which are also used for mammography. The CR 30-Xm is thus an important addition to this comprehensive CR portfolio.”
