Mobile Direct Radiography Cart Speeds Patient Flow

A new mobile direct radiography (DR) system speeds up the patient flow in an X-ray room and greatly lowers the equipment costs associated with the process.

EMI America Miami’s (Miami, FL, USA) DR Kart is an innovative system that captures X-ray images on tabletop and upright positions with a DIRA charged-coupled device (CCD) detector. The system is US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved.

The DR Kart replaces both the table and the wall buckies with only one detector. It can also be moved to another X-ray room. According to the chief engineer at EMI, DR Kart holds a DR detector and can maneuver to position it under the table for tabletop views and/or in an upright position for standing up position views. It is small, versatile, cost-effective, and maintenance-free. It frees up space in the X-ray room due to the elimination of the wall bucky, which has to be kept at a fixed distance from the table. No need either for a huge table; a small one on wheels does the same job.

With DIRA detector mounted on DR Kart, it is very easy to convert any old X-ray machine into a modern digital X-ray system at a low cost, eliminating the film, cassettes, and improving efficiency. DIRA detectors are built in Russia and Germany with a new CCD technology that eliminates mirrors and cooling systems producing a better image quality with higher reliability and durability. The DR Kart comes integrated with a mini-PACS (picture archiving and communication system), which can store, print, and transmit images in Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) format.

The combination of DR Kart with DIRA detectors ensures the highest image quality (5 lp/mm), highest speed (3 seconds), great equipment reliability, and enables the customers to control their costs with higher quality.

DR Kart with DIRA detectors can be also used with a portable X-ray unit to be transported to remote locations to get excellent X-ray images with a low investment.
