KLAS Enterprises (Andover, MA,USA), a research and consulting firm specializing in the monitoring and reporting of performance data for healthcare's information technology (HIT) vendors, has ranked Philips Medical Systems (Best, The Netherlands) as best overall cardiology PACS [picture archiving communications system] vendor in its Cardiology PACS Study 2005, published on June 22, 2005.

This PACS research project was sponsored by five integrated delivery network provider organizations. During the survey process, a total of 172 cardiology department executives were interviewed for a median of 45 minutes, and asked to submit information on their experiences with cardiology PACS systems. Sixty-five percent of the data submitted was collected from cardiology managers or directors.

Within the report, Philips Xcelera was also ranked first or joint first in 10 categories including the quality of product releases and updates, successful implementation within budget, quality of training, and value for money. The Xcelera cardiology PACS is customized to the way clinicians and consultants work, integrating one single work-spot to support the data-rich information generated by cath labs, echo labs, and other departments. The Xcelera PACS is an innovative system, with a combined installed base of over 1,500 sites worldwide and a long-standing track record of reliability and efficacy.
