One of the largest global health technology companies has acquired a diagnostic-ultrasound intelligent image-analysis software provider specialized in cardiac and OB/GYN ultrasound solutions.

The agreement will strengthen the global leadership of the company in the fields of cardiac ultrasound, and support expansion into Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN), and other new fields.

Under the agreement between TomTec Imaging Systems (TOMTEC; Munich, Germany) and Royal Philips (Amsterdam, Netherlands), Philips will acquire TOMTEC’s ultrasound clinical applications and imaging software products and services. These include OB/GYN, cardiology, and radiology multi-modality, and vendor-neutral diagnostic and analysis applications, that can increase the diagnostic quality and efficiency of ultrasound scans by enabling reproducible and automated measurements. TOMTEC’s Research and Development (R&D) capabilities, clinical applications, and workflow solutions will complement Philips existing ultrasound products including 3D-imaging and transducer technology.

Philips already provides a wide range of medical ultrasound solutions worldwide, including real-time 3D cardiac imaging of the heart, intelligent quantification tools, and innovative portable ultrasound systems.

Business Leader, Ultrasound Business Group, at Royal Philips, Vitor Rocha, said, “We are committed to providing ultrasound solutions that combine superb image quality with advanced analytics to drive efficiency and reproducibility, while reducing costs for our customers. The acquisition of TOMTEC brings a strong team and new assets that are strategically valuable to Philips and will enable us to accelerate growth in our cardiac ultrasound and OB/GYN portfolios."
