A new hand-held, thumb-operated portable ultrasound system, with advanced mobile connectivity, designed for use in nearly any environment has been showcased at the MEDICA trade fair during November 16–19, 2015, in Dusseldorf (Germany). Posted on 18 Nov 2015
The small size of the device enables clinicians to use it for home visits, in the field, in remote locations in developing countries, or when on the move. The device is lightweight, and features a high-resolution 7-inch touchscreen display, with a large viewing angle, and high-definition color flow images. The device has WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and can connect to external devices using USB, HDMI, and audio interface ports.
The iViz device was developed by FUJIFILM SonoSite (Bothell, WA, USA) a leader point-of-care ultra-high frequency micro-ultrasound ultrasound systems. FUJIFILM Sonosite also manufactures a range of bedside ultrasound systems. The iViz supports high-resolution 2-D, M-Mode, and Color Velocity Doppler imaging, and has a P21v phased-array 5 MHz transducer. The iViz uses FUJIFILM SonoHD2 Imaging Technology, and SonoADAPT Tissue Optimization Technology software.
Dr. Armbruster, head of the Anaesthesia Department, Evangelisches Krankenhaus, Unna, Germany, said, “I routinely work with a SonoSite ultrasound system every day, and can make good, extremely fast and informed decisions based on the images I see. I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for ultrasound, promoting it as a useful and accessible technique, and regularly conduct ultrasound training courses, as well as performing live scanning demonstrations at congresses.”
