New ultrasound operated solely using touch-screen control panels have been launched in Sweden at the Röntgenveckan Radiology congress (Malmo, Sweden).Posted on 24 Sep 2015
The devices feature advanced recording features, and advanced imaging with a larger number of images to visualize movement, and reduce noise and artifacts. Doppler imaging and imaging improvements enable clinicians to distinguish subtle differences in contrast in tissue, and facilitate identification of small structures.
The Touch Prime Ultrasound, and Touch Prime XE Ultrasound Systems were developed by Carestream (Rochester, NY, USA), and received FDA 510k clearance (FDA; Silver Spring, MD USA) for the US market. The devices are intended for general diagnostic ultrasound imaging in radiology departments.
The Touch Prime XE uses Carestream’s Touch Prime SynTek architecture. The device can reach frame rates of more than 100 Hz, and supports Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) imaging, barcode and card readers, wireless connectivity, and elastography. The panels provide tactile feedback like a traditional keyboard, and main keys have etched markings. The panel is sealed to facilitate cleaning. Clinicians can logon using “Swipe and go” badges. The system can boot up in 18 seconds, and because of this does not need a standby mode, or battery backup.
Carestream Touch Prime and Carestream Touch Prime XE are expected to begin shipping in the fourth quarter of 2015. The Carestream Touch Ultrasound product family will grow to include additional systems designed to meet the demands of the medical market worldwide.
Anders Sjöström, Northern Europe Cluster business manager for Carestream Ultrasound Solutions, said, "These new ultrasound systems are based on our expertise in digital radiography. We started with a blank sheet of paper and have been working with our customers to develop next-generation ultrasound solutions. These systems have a powerful, integrated GPU processor that provides exceptional image quality and fast response times, which also improves usability and productivity.”
