New Integrated System for Prostate Biopsies Using Ultrasound Imaging with MRI Guidance

By MedImaging International staff writers
Posted on 23 Feb 2015
A new, advanced ultrasound system has been released that enables urologists to perform prostate biopsies using stereotactic ultrasound imaging and system-integrated Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) guidance in a single integrated device. The biopsies do not require contouring, registration or calibration.

The system provides reliable precision needle placement, and unlike other MRI Fusion workstations, the system does not use electromagnetic sensors to find the abnormal area for biopsy.

The device was developed by Enovare (Tarrytown, NY, USA), a company that aims to increase physician certainty, reduce the time patients spend in Operating Rooms (OR), and increase space in the OR using targeting and delivery of imaging technology.

The Enovare uro ultrasound system uses proprietary iVue and Xact grid technology to ensure consistent precision needle placement, and uses the Sonus Imaging (Tarrytown, NY, USA) proprietary software. The Enovare uro features a 58.4-cm wide LED True HD 1080p display for MRI targeted ultrasound biopsy, Low Dose Rate (LDR), High Dose Rate (HDR), and Focal therapy.

The Enovare uro is compatible with all MRI systems, and no additional software is needed for the MRI system itself.
