A new tablet-based ultrasound system is designed to satisfy all applications in the point-of-care field, which is the fastest growing medical segment in the healthcare industry.

Samsung Electronics America, Inc., a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (Seoul, Republic of Korea), presented its first tablet-based ultrasound system—the Samsung UGEO PT60A. With its performance, slim and compact size, and ease-of-use, this latest device is among a number of innovative medical imaging products Samsung presented the system October 2013, at the American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA) annual meeting in San Francisco (CA, USA).

The system received 510(k) US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance in August 2013 and completed its domestic product review in September in time for the October launch this meeting. Equipped with cutting-edge clinical technology, the UGEO PT60A features include: a 10.1-inch light-emitting diode (LED) touch-screen monitor; Needle Mate, for precise identification of the needle’s location; SDMR feature, which provides clearer imaging with a novel noise reduction filter; lastly, SCI, which provides spatial and contrast resolution.

“We are excited to launch the groundbreaking Samsung UGEO PT60A ultrasound system, which is uniquely engineered to meet the ever growing needs of the portable healthcare market,” said Brian Keith, director of sales for Samsung’s health and medical equipment unit. “This system underscores our continued commitment to introducing increased innovation to the healthcare market through our health and medical business unit.”

Using the one-touch measurement features of the ultra-portable and compact UGEO PT60A, exam findings are provided with optimum effectiveness. The system’s Auto IMT (intima media thickness) and rapid diagnosis report can help providers make critical decisions more easily. This, in turn, enables fast and timely treatment for the patient.
The UGEO PT60A design can also help sports medicine specialists quickly examine injuries with easy access to common functions made possible by the sensitive full touch-screen and intuitive user interface. Size is again to the advantage here, as specialists can better attend to the injury by enhancing their mobility during the diagnostic exam.
