Ultrasound System Capable of Performing 30 Different Exams

A new ultrasound system accommodates a wide range of patients, body types, and specialties, ranging from radiology and general imaging, including shared service, to obstetrics, gynecology (ob/gyn), and pediatric imaging, and features a complete range of transducers and capable of performing up to 30 different exam types.

At the European Congress of Radiology (ECR), held March 2012 in Vienna (Austria), Siemens Healthcare (Erlangen, Germany) presented its latest ultrasound platform, the Acuson S1000 ultrasound system. The system expands access to premium imaging performance at a cost-effective cost of ownership. It encompasses innovative ultrasound technology and applications as well as stellar imaging performance to provide better patient care and is one of the new product systems of Siemens Healthcare’s recently announced Agenda 2013 investment program.


Sharing the advanced system design of the Acuson S2000 ultrasound system, the Acuson S1000 system generates a high-fidelity ultrasound signal while running multiple real-time applications, improving diagnostic effectiveness in both routine and complex diagnosis. The system also supports a full range of sophisticated and Siemens ultrasound technologies and features, including strain-imaging capabilities with eSie Touch elasticity imaging, contrast-enhanced ultrasound with cadence contrast pulse sequencing technology, and intracardiac echocardiography using the Acuson AcuNav ultrasound catheter.

Workflow-enhancing applications such as eSieScan workflow protocols and syngo Auto OB measurements are also supported. The new Acuson S1000 ultrasound system features a robust set of applications ranging from radiology and general imaging, including shared service, to obstetrics, gynecology (ob/gyn), and pediatric imaging.

Many of the latest developments and applications migrated from the Acuson S Family have been incorporated into the Acuson S1000 ultrasound system, including, e.g., strain imaging capabilities with eSie Touch elasticity imaging to evaluate relative tissue stiffness, enhance mass detection, and visualize disease progression for a more informed diagnosis. It also supports a variety of transducers and clinicians can use this technology on a wider range of exam types.

Workflow-enhancing tools such as the eSieScan workflow protocols improve exam consistency as well as knowledge-based applications to additionally automate fetal measurements (syngo Auto OB measurements) and to trace measurements with area, circumference, linear and volume results (syngo eSieCalcs native tracing software). Moreover, contrast-enhanced ultrasound with cadence contrast pulse sequencing technology enhances lesion detection with highly sensitive and specific contrast agent signals. Another feature is intracardiac echocardiography with the Acuson AcuNav ultrasound catheter, which has been designed to enable physicians to perform a complete ultrasound examination during interventional procedures and before the patient leaves the catheterization or electrophysiology lab.

The Acuson S1000 ultrasound system offers multiple configuration options to support a facility’s clinical needs and budget requirements. It supports a comprehensive range of transducers and exam types to accommodate a wide range of body types, including difficult-to-image bariatric patients. This makes the Acuson S1000 system a fitting solution for any demanding clinical environment, including shared service, in community hospitals, physician practices, large healthcare systems, and imaging centers. Furthermore, users can move easily between the Acuson S Family systems, since no learning curve exists and Siemens transducers are compatible with all Acuson S Family solutions. An upgrade path to Siemens’ ultrapremium technologies is currently available exclusively within the Acuson S Family of products.
