A new battery has been designed for a point-of-care (POC) ultrasound system.

Micro Power (Beaverton, OR, USA), a developer of portable power systems for mission-critical equipment, has designed and manufactured a new, custom Li-ion battery pack specifically for SonoSite, Inc.'s (Bothell, WA, USA), latest point-of-care ultrasound systems, the M-Turbo hand-held system and the S Series ultrasound tools.

Micro Power's new battery pack not only powers SonoSite's new, fourth-generation systems, but it is compatible with existing SonoSite products such as the MicroMaxx and Titan systems. The battery pack provides over 60 Watts of power, 15% more power than current battery packs offered with SonoSite products.

SonoSite's fourth-generation product line delivers an exponential increase in processing power for excellent image clarity across all exam types at the point of patient care in a rugged, easy-to-use design. The battery pack was designed to support SonoSite's requirements for performance, immediate boot-up from a cold start, and extended sessions of use within a lightweight unit.

"Micro Power utilized the latest in battery technology for a portable power solution to support SonoSite's industry-leading systems,” said Jeff VanZwol, marketing director of Micro Power. "We are proud of our longstanding relationship with SonoSite, as the company created and currently leads the hand-carried ultrasound market.”

Micro Power is a U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) registered and ISO International Organization for Standardization) 9001:2000 certified supplier of custom battery systems for portable mission-critical equipment. The company serves the portable medical equipment markets, automatic identification and data collection (AIDC) markets and commercial military markets. The company's battery systems power close to 70% of all portable automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in the market today.

Micro Power Electronics is ISO 13485- and 9001:2000-certified, as well as FDA registered.
