Carestream Health (Rochester, N.Y., USA) demonstrated its advanced capabilities in digital radiography (DR) rooms at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) 2021 conference.

Carestream highlighted the enhancements to its premium X-ray system, the DRX-Evolution Plus, which meets high-volume imaging needs of large hospitals, clinics and urgent care centers. Its new features include a smaller tubehead profile with a larger display, helping radiographers conduct exams with greater visibility. An upgraded tabletop provides more range, making it easier and more comfortable for patients to undergo an exam. Functional LED lighting in several locations changes color as a patient exam progresses. Also on display was Carestream’s upgrade-friendly DRX-Compass X-ray System which now offers an affordable floor-mount option, delivering an innovative, flexible and efficient medical imaging solution to sites that are unable to accommodate an overhead tube crane.

Carestream’s cutting-edge medical imaging detectors were spotlighted at RSNA 2021. The company now offers its first glass-free cesium medical detector to the market, the Lux 35 detector, with superb resolution, better detail and a reduced exposure dose as compared to gadolinium detectors. Carestream also highlighted the DRX-L detector which provides the largest field of view (17” x 51”) and the highest resolution to deliver high-quality leg and spine exams. For facilities looking for an affordable way to upgrade to full wireless digital imaging, Carestream presented its fast and light Focus 35C and 43C detectors offer high-quality image capture. These detectors are an ideal, budget-friendly way to tap the power of digital radiography.

At RSNA 2021, Carestream also shared its clear and efficient solutions for expanding to digital radiography (DR). Carestream demonstrated how imaging facilities that have not yet fully upgraded to DR can move forward to full wireless DR imaging with its DR Retrofit systems at a fraction of the cost of purchasing a new system. The company also presented its self-powered and rechargeable DRX-Transportable System/Lite which features a lightweight wireless tablet that allows for the capture and viewing of images at the point of care.

Additionally, Carestream showcased its innovations in mobile medical imaging with the Ziehm Vision RFD C-arm and DRX-Revolution Mobile X-ray System at RSNA 2021. A mobile, fluoroscopic surgical imaging system with a flat-panel detector, the Ziehm Vision RFD C-arm allows for broad procedural work including vascular, cardiac, spine ortho-trauma and pain management, in addition to many general surgical applications. Carestream’s enhanced DRX-Revolution Mobile X-ray System has an improved ergonomic design and streamlined user workflow, as well as functional LED lighting and more responsive display screens. Dedicated to both patient and provider safety, the company’s mobile solution plays an instrumental role in limiting the potential spread of infectious diseases by allowing operators to complete all general imaging examinations at the bedside.

Carestream also highlighted the imaging and workflow value of artificial intelligence (AI) in medical imaging. Carestream’s AI features are powered by Eclipse—the engine behind the company’s cutting-edge imaging software platforms—that uses proprietary algorithms and AI to amplify the value of the entire imaging chain. The company’s Imaging and Workflow Intelligence solutions help improve image clarity, optimize dose and increase workflow efficiency. At RSNA 2021, Carestream highlighted Imaging Intelligence and Workflow Intelligence with several AI-driven innovations, such as Smart Noise Cancellation (SNC), an optional software feature that provides improved anatomical clarity, preservation of fine detail and better contrast-to-noise ratio for images acquired at a broad range of exposures; as well as its Smart Room options which offer faster, more efficient exams and enhanced workflow, and are available on the DRX-Compass and DRX-Evolution Plus systems.

“Carestream’s mobile and fluoroscopic product offerings deliver high-quality diagnostic images at the bedside—whether that is in the ICU, OR or anywhere else—reducing the need to transport patients throughout a facility,” said Jorge Quant, VP Strategy and Marketing, Americas Region and Global Marketing Director at Carestream. “Both the Ziehm Vision RFD C-arm and our mobile DRX-Revolution are examples of Carestream’s commitment to meet the evolving needs of our customers and their patients.”

“Carestream is applying AI to add value across the entire imaging chain—from capture to diagnosis,” said Jill Hamman, Worldwide Marketing Manager, Global X-ray Solutions at Carestream. “The features we are showing at RSNA can be put to work today in imaging facilities to deliver gains in image quality and efficiency, which in turn lead to a higher standard of care for patients.”
