Siemens Healthineers (Erlangen, Germany) highlighted products and solutions at this year’s RSNA focusing strongly on the digital transformation of imaging and therapy to improve patient care.

Siemens’ intelligent imaging technologies, digital health and connected digital interventional solutions enable fast and accurate diagnosis, informed decision-making along the patient journey and next-generation treatment delivery to help deliver better outcomes while increasing efficiency. At RSNA 2019, Siemens demonstrated how it is expanding precision medicine and transforming care delivery to help make the right decision at the right time for every patient – efficiently.

Siemens displayed its new Somatom X.cite premium single-source computed tomography (CT) scanner along with the new myExam Companion intelligent user interface concept. The Somatom X.cite CT scanner, which was recently cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has a large, 82 cm gantry bore and optional Moodlight feature, and includes the Patient Observation Camera. This new 2-D visualization camera allows the technologist to closely monitor the patient while he or she is inside the gantry for potentially fewer patient motion artifacts. The Somatom X.cite also includes Visual Patient Instruction, a new visual breath hold indicator on the gantry that guides the patient through the breath hold process with color-guided visual instructions. Together, these features create a holistic, patient-centric scanning experience.

The Somatom X.cite is the first CT scanner launching with the myExam Companion which enables technologists to utilize the full potential of the new CT scanner. The intuitive user interface of the myExam Companion guides the user through the exam workflow with precise questions about the patient. The myExam Companion combines available patient data such as gender and age with other user or machine-observable, patient-specific information – for example, a patient’s electrocardiogram (ECG) waveform for a cardiac study – to identify optimal acquisition and reconstruction techniques for each patient. Together, these innovations make the imaging process more efficient, compensating for differences in user experience levels and scan complexities on even the most complicated acquisitions, including coronary CT angiography (CTA) studies.

Other products featured by Siemens at RSNA 2019 were the ACUSON Redwood ultrasound system which delivers premium image quality, exceptional performance and smart workflow amidst tight budgets; the AIDAN intelligent scanner platform for PET/CT; the AI-RAD Companion Chest CT which automatically performs measurements and prepares results in the form of clinical images and reports; the AI-Pathway Companion that aims to be the next generation in clinical decision support systems; and the ARTIS icono which is transforming care delivery in image-guided therapy and is the future of minimally-invasive treatment.

At this year’s RSNA, Siemens also held comprehensive hands-on workshops in 3D breast ultrasound, 50° Wide-Angle Tomosynthesis, reading of Synthetic 2D images, and breast MRI.
