A new, scalable and customizable Digital Radiography (DR) system has been launched at the 2015 European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in Vienna (Austria). DR systems, unlike Computed Radiography (CR) systems, dispense with the need for film cassettes and instead use digital detectors.

The new DR system is available in multiple configurations. A healthcare institution can upgrade an existing CR system to DR functionality, install a single-detector DR system, or install a comprehensive multi-detector DR system.

The DR 400 was developed by Agfa HealthCare (Mortsel, Belgium) and was designed to be used with Agfa's MUSICA image processing software for improved image quality with a reduced radiation dose.

Optional components of the DR 400 system include a wall stand with tilting bucky, automatic collimator, Dose Area Product (DAP) meter, an integrated digital inclination display or 24.4 cm interactive tubehead display, motorized tubehead tracking and table or wall stand, and a cassette size sensor in the rotating bucky.

Louis Kuitenbrouwer, vice-president Imaging of Agfa HealthCare, commented, “With the DR 400, we are driving towards our mission to make our customers successful, by bringing scalable DR solutions within their reach. It shows that digital solutions can be affordable and still meet high image quality needs. The hospital can choose its own path with a solution that delivers higher throughout and a lower cost per examination, with excellent image quality. That’s the DR 400.”
