A new contrast injection system delivers computerized tomography (CT) contrast injections without using any syringes, utilizing only soft bags.

The FlowSens Syringe-Free CT Contrast Injection System combines a hydraulic injection system composed of a soft bag injector and a complete range of disposable components for individual patient use; the system works with pre-filled injector bags and vials. The fluid itself is infused at pressures up to 2,100 kPa, delivering up to 220 mL of liquid volume per delivery phase. The system and its associated disposables are designed to fit seamlessly into the organization of radiology services and are compatible with ScanBag and all types of contrast agent available.

The system is designed for intuitive use and promotes the safeguarding of procedures at every stage of the injection to increase safety for both patients and clinicians. The injector itself is adapted to single- or multipatient markets, mono or bi-liquid uses, and is available in both pedestal and ceiling-mount versions. The FlowSens Syringe-Free CT Contrast Injection System is a product of Medex (Saint Priest, France), part of the Guerbet Group (Villepinte, France), and has received the European Community CE marking of approval.

“We are very pleased to make available to radiology professionals a contrast agent injection solution which is the only one of its type in the world, developed in France by the Guerbet Group subsidiary Medex,” said Yves L’Epine, CEO of the Guerbet Group. “This launch is in line with the Group’s strategy of diversification into medical devices linked to the use of our contrast agents for diagnostic and/or interventional radiology.”
