New wireless digital radiography (DR) detector technology improves patient comfort and exam flexibility. The product range provides immediate image validation, transfer, and access.

Agfa HealthCare (Mortsel, Belgium) announced the expansion of its DR product range with the addition of the DX-D 100 with wireless detector, a mobile direct digital X-ray unit. Combining full mobility with excellent image processing, the DX-D 100 wireless provides improved patient comfort and safety with precision positioning for imaging in mobile environments. Designed for bedside use, the system can handle a wide range of general radiography X-ray studies, and offers a very short exposure time, delivering high quality images for immediate quality control (QC) review. The higher productivity and image quality translate into lower cost per exam and higher diagnostic efficiency for imaging facilities of all sizes.

The DX-D 100 is now available with the DX-D 30C wireless, portable DR detector providing full mobility with excellent image quality when imaging even the least mobile patients. The wireless capability increases flexibility and improves the overall radiology workflow. With no trailing cable, there is less chance of picking up dirt and germs from the floor, making it ideal for use in intensive care units (ICUs), emergency departments, and operating rooms. Moreover, with excellent handling capabilities, the DX-D 100 can be effectively used in confined spaces.

Agfa HealthCare’s NX workstation with its large 17-inch touch screen is integrated into the mobile DR system, providing fast image acquisition and a smooth, optimal workflow. With its intuitive user interface, the NX workstation requires minimal training, and it communicates seamlessly with picture archiving and communication systems (PACS), hospital information systems (HIS) and radiology information systems (RIS), eliminating manual data entry and the potential for typographic errors.

Agfa HealthCare’s Musica2 image processing software has been specially adapted and fine-tuned to enhance additionally the excellent DR image quality associated with this system. The Musica2 software analyzes each image and automatically applies the appropriate image enhancement parameters independent of exam type. Combined with the powerful generator of the DX-D 100, sharp images--particularly of dense areas--are delivered, making it suitable for chest, abdomen, orthopedic, and spine examinations.

“At Agfa HealthCare we are committed to offering solutions covering all types of digital radiography examinations, supporting centralized and decentralized environments,” said Greg Cefalo, US imaging business unit manager, Agfa HealthCare. “We’re pleased to offer the DX-D 100 with a wireless detector to busy imaging departments and their technologists, delivering the ease of handling, speed of image acquisition, and improving image quality in mobile imaging environments.”

The DX-D 100 with wireless detector is available globally with installations beginning in December 2011.
