Asia-Pacific Market Increasing for Breast Disease Diagnosis, Therapy

The market for breast cancer detection, diagnosis, and treatment is well developed in the United States and much of Europe. It has remained relatively underdeveloped in the Asia-Pacific region but recent trends suggest that the opportunities for device manufacturers are improving, driven by the growing prevalence of breast disease in these countries.

Research and Markets (Dublin, Ireland), a company that provides international market research and market data, announced that they have published a new report on breast cancer diagnosis and therapy markets in Europe and Asia-Pacific.

In the United States and Europe, mammography is the standard of care for the early detection of breast cancer. Broader adoption is expected in the Asia-Pacific region, which should contribute to higher rates of detection. Outside the United States the majority of ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems are used for general radiology and are not specifically for imaging the breast. The ability of these systems to differentiate between tissue types that cannot be distinguished by mammography should contribute to incremental sales in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Higher rates of detection resulting from the broader adoption of imaging systems should contribute to sales of biopsy devices, which are used to confirm the presence of breast cancer.
