A cone beam computed tomography (CT) system has been developed for easy-to-use three-dimensional (3D) imaging of cranio-maxillofacial anatomy. Posted on 14 Apr 2009
The Kodak 9500 cone beam 3D system was introduced by Carestream Health, Inc. (Rochester, New York, NY, USA), has been built on the Kodak 9000 platform, the Kodak 9500 3D system enables users to quickly produce excellent 3D images, ranging from dual jaw to full craniofacial images, more cost-effectively and at a lower dose than conventional medical CT systems.

The Kodak 9500 3D system is well suited for radiology facilities providing cranio-maxillofacial imaging services to dental professionals and medical specialists. With high quality, anatomically correct 3D images down to 0.2 mm voxel size, users are able to utilize the precise image detail of 3D to provide more accurate diagnoses, improved treatment planning, and more efficient patient care.
Image output occurs in Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) formats, supporting flexible output options including customizable report templates, picture archiving and communication systems (PACS), and medical printer connections. The 3D volumes generated by the Kodak 9500 system can be exported to any other DICOM-compatible software.
Featuring a user friendly and stylish design, the system provides innovative features such as face-to-face patient positioning, which accommodates standing or seated patients, including wheelchair patients, of varying body types and sizes. Program selection with preprogrammed settings occurs directly on the system's intuitive interface, simplifying patient setup and exam preparation. The system also includes 3D visualization software designed for dental professionals that is intuitive and easy-to-use, enabling users to focus on diagnosis and treatment. The system can also be used with any DICOM-compatible 3D visualization software.
The Kodak 9500 3D system captures dual jaw (9 cm x 15 cm) or all dento-maxillofacial anatomy (18.4 cm x 20.6 cm) in one acquisition for a wide range of clinical applications such as orthodontics, implantology, and surgical planning. With the additional ability to control patient dose through variable settings of mA and kV, practitioners can manage the patient dose by focusing on their immediate diagnostic needs. This enables users to maximize image detail required for the specific application while managing patient dose.
The 3D system is expected to be generally available for purchase in most European countries around the second quarter of 2009.
