A company that develops biomedical engineering software and services has released updates for two medical imaging software suites.

The software suites are intended to be used as interface and image segmentation systems for transferring imaging information from medical scanners, such as Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). The focus of the new design was usability and improving workflows. The new release includes new tools that speed up the segmentation process and expand visualization capabilities of the image reader.

The Mimics 18.0 and 3-matic 10.0 suites, were designed by Materialise (Leuven, Belgium), and feature a wide range of new tools and improved features such as, an enhanced the view of the region of interest, an optimized X-Ray protocol for2-D/3-D registration, the ability to fine-tune a 3-D model by changing 2-D contours, improved heart segmentation, and more realistic cranial plates. In addition, the system enables a simplified process for the creation of benchtop models, improved mesh creation, unlimited material assignment, a customized Mimics project management tab, the ability to import large projects, create measurements, and objects to help the reader.

The new version of 3-matic can now register changes in operation parameters in real-time, allowing specific workflows to be repeated on multiple objects. The new software release also enables repositioning of all objects over the same distance or angle, the addition of a logo, and export to customizable PDF for distribution, and measurement of dimensions using new-screen rulers.

The new version of 3-matic 10.0 features an additional file format (*.zpr) for exporting and printing color print models to ZPrinters. Improved image registration enables the user to stitch datasets with an overlap, and register MR/CT data.
