Two new innovative 1.5-T Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems have been unveiled at the 2015 European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in Vienna (Austria).

The new systems consume 34% less power than previous generations, lowering operational costs while providing the same diagnostic capabilities. The MRI workflow has also been simplified to reduce the number of steps needed to carry out whole body diffusion imaging, and brain exams.

The SIGNA Creator 1.5T and SIGNA Explorer 1.5T are manufactured by GE Healthcare (Chalfont St. Giles, Buckinghamshire, UK) and feature GE Healthcare’s SilentScan technology which reduces scanning noise levels to three decibels above ambient for neurological exams. GE Healthcare is offering upgrade programs for older GE 1.5T MR systems in Europe that add the new features to existing scanners.

GE Healthcare also revealed the SIGNA PET/MR system which combines GE’s latest Positron Emission Tomography (PET) technology with 3.0-T MR imaging. Combined PET and MR imaging enables clinicians to see cellular changes before any anatomical changes are detectable. Clinicians can then fuse the active biochemistry data and anatomical images to find the exact location of abnormal cell growth.
