MRI System Customized for Breast Imaging

Posted on 22 Jan 2009
A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system tailored for breast imaging enables feetfirst and headfirst positioning and excellent access to perform biopsies, exceptional openness in a 70-cm open bore, and the shortest system available (125 cm) for increased comfort.

The American Cancer Society's new screening guidelines recommend that high-risk women for breast cancer receive a yearly magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan, which could affect up to 1.4 million women.

Siemens Medical Solutions' (Erlangen, Germany) latest development in MRI technology, the Magnetom Espree-Pink, is a dedicated MR breast scanner that combines the open bore design of the Magnetom Espree with the Sentinelle Vanguard for Siemens, a breast coil systems that provides exceptional breast imaging and biopsy access. The Magnetom Espree-Pink provides the same level of patient comfort of the Magnetom Espree; the world's first open bore MRI.

The MR system provides a comprehensive range of routine and advanced applications for breast care, including syngo VIEWS for routine imaging, syngo GRACE for spectroscopy, and syngo BLADE for motion-free imaging results. An integral part of scanner is the design of the Sentinelle Vanguard coil for Siemens. This coil technology, combined with the system's dedicated multi-modality workplace, creates a powerful scanner that provides excellent speed and versatility, and enhanced workflow.
