The Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT) scanner will help Cobalt (Cheltenham, GL, UK), a large medical charity in the United Kingdom (UK), to improve diagnosis of cancer and dementia, and clinical research capabilities.

Cobalt provides advanced PET/CT and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to the UK National Health Service (NHS) and serves a population of more than 2 million people in a wide geographical area.

The PET/CT scanner is the Biograph mCT Flow Edge, which will reduce scanning times and enable Cobalt to perform more scans, and reduce the radiation dose a patient is exposed to. Using the new scanner, clinicians at the Cobalt Imaging Center will now have access to higher resolution PET/CT images for every part of the body, and for research, and diagnosis of a range of key diseases.

The scanner was unveiled at Cobalt's 50th anniversary celebrations after a dedicated fundraising drive. The scanner is made by Siemens Healthcare (Erlangen, Germany).

Peter Sharpe, CEO of Cobalt, commented, “This is a significant milestone for Cobalt, as we expand our important work in medical diagnostic imaging. Through our close partnership with Siemens Healthcare, we are now in a position to considerably heighten both our clinical research and diagnostic capabilities.”
