New Enhancements for Gamma Camera

New enhancements to improve the efficiency of a gamma camera were introduced at the annual meeting of the Society of Nuclear Medicine in Los Angeles (CA, USA).

One enhancement, called DualPlanar, enables clinicians to image two patients simultaneously. The second enhancement, called SmartStep, is new software designed to streamline imaging by combining multiple manual processes into one automated step for the operator. These new options are designed specifically for SkyLight, the gantry-free gamma camera from Philips Medical Systems (Best, The Netherlands). SmartStep incorporates site-specific intelligence into the current automated efficiency of the SkyLight system, enabling automation of many steps required to image a patient, while DualPlanar provides obvious productivity advantages over single planar systems.

"SkyLight has the potential to broaden applications for nuclear medicine imaging, including the ability to combine nuclear medicine with other modalities such as computed tomography (CT) and ultrasound, as well as the expansion of nuclear imaging in surgical and interventional procedures,” said Gary Burbach, CEO of the Nuclear Medicine Division of Philips Medical Systems.
