Alliance to Advance Digital Mammography

In a move to develop a superior digital mammography system in a total integrated solution, The Agfa-Gevaert Group (Mortsel, Belgium) and Hologic, Inc. (Bedford, MA, USA) have agreed to jointly access each other's patented digital imaging technologies.

The agreement provides for reciprocal distribution rights of Hologic's amorphous selenium digital mammography system and Agfa's image management systems and workstations. Hologic will manufacture a digital mammography system that will be combined with Agfa's PACS, data acquisition, workstation, and hardcopy readout for a totally integrated solution. Hologic will also receive access to Agfa's patented Musica image processing technology software for optimization of image contrast and detail visualization of bone and soft tissue.

"A totally integrated solution is the next step in digital mammography,” said John Glass, general manager, Agfa HealthCare. "With Hologic, we plan to integrate companion technologies such as PACS and hardcopy imagers with the digital mammography modality while aligning the technology with how radiologists want to view and diagnose from images.”
