In a move to broaden its product offerings, Sectra AB (Linkoping, Sweden) has acquired Pronosco A/S (Copenhagen, Denmark). Pronosco develops and markets software for the diagnosis and monitoring of osteoporosis. Terms were not disclosed.Posted on 26 Feb 2002
Pronosco's software enables diagnosis of osteoporosis by an x-ray image of the patient's hand. Through digital image analysis, a doctor can estimate the bone mineral density and the structure of the bone, facilitating an early diagnosis. The software will be available as an optional tool in Sectra's workstations. In November 2001, Sectra signed a cooperation agreement with Pronosco whereby Sectra would integrate Pronosco's software tools with Sectra's digital radiology system.
"The acquisition broadens Sectra's product portfolio in digital radiology and strengthens the offering to our customers,” said Torbjorn Kronander, president of Sectra Imtec AB, the medical business subsidiary of Sectra AB. "Pronosco has specialist competence in digital image analysis which, in combination with Sectra's expertise in digital radiology, provides possibilities for us to significantly improve the benefits our users derive from digital radiology.”
