Researchers in a new study investigating the global market for portable X-Ray systems, and Computed Tomography scanners predict a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 7.5% between the years 2013 and to 2020. The Asia Pacific market is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 10% in the same period.Posted on 09 Sep 2015
Growth will be driven by an increasing percentage of geriatrics in the population, and emergencies requiring orthopedic, brain, or cardiovascular scans. A growing geriatric population also increases the need for implant procedures. Innovation in portable medical systems is advancing including wireless connectivity, and capital deployment. Patients increasingly prefer mobile, minimally invasive diagnostic techniques.
According to the researchers, most regional demand for portable X-Ray systems and CT scanners is in North America, and this trend is expected to continue due to an aging population and access to new technology. Asian and Latin American emerging economies will also contribute to future growth of these markets especially for technology advanced, and more affordable versions of X-Ray and CT products.
The market share for CT scanners is expected to grow substantially while the demand for X-Ray systems is expected to fall between the years 2015 and 2020. Cost-effective high-performance medium slice scanners captured more than 59% of the CT scan market segment, while more user-friendly and affordable Computed Radiography (CR) technology was the preferred X-Ray system. The market for portable Digital Radiography (DR)-based X-Ray systems is expected to grow the fastest.
