Lexmark International (Lexington, KY, USA) a provider of printing and imaging products, software, solutions and services, has acquired medical image processing solutions company Claron Technology (Toronto, ON, Canada) for a cash purchase price of about USD 37 million.Posted on 02 Feb 2015
Claron will become part of Lexmark's Perceptive Software group which develops the Perceptive Software suite of products. The suite consists of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) and Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA) software, output management solutions, and clinical connectivity technology.
Claron's solutions include an enterprise medical image viewing platform which allows users to access imaging studies from Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), as well as VNAs. Claron's software will allow Lexmark to broaden Perceptive Software's customer base to healthcare providers by providing web access, including images, to Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems. This will allow referring physicians and other medical staff to collaborate on images and patient information also outside the EMR.
Other Claron products include distribution, sharing and collaboration software, and a universal web-based zero-footprint viewer that supports viewing of Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) images and 3-D images.
The acquisition gives Lexmark Software unique, interoperable vendor-neutral solutions that can improve collaboration within, and between healthcare providers.
