CIRS (Norfolk, VA, USA) and Aquilab (Lille, France) reported on the establishment a strategic partnership that will build upon each company’s history of innovations in phantom technologies and image analysis software, respectively. Posted on 07 Aug 2012
The first result of this partnership, ISO Analyze image analysis software, was released by CIRS during the 2012 American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) annual meeting held in Charlotte (NC, USA), July 29 through August 2, 2012. ISO analyze image analysis software integrates with the ISO Cube Daily quality assurance (QA) phantom and ISO (International Organization for Standardization) base alignment platform, enabling user-friendly quality control of the isocenter of a LINAC (linear accelerator) by analyzing Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) images acquired with the EPID (electronic portal imaging device) detector. Controls are run automatically, analyzing the image of the ISO Cube and quantifying a large number of evaluation parameters. It allows users to generate a report for each preceding control.
“Our new partnership with Aquilab will allow us to bring affordable, high quality, ‘turnkey’ solutions to common challenges such as isocenter coincidence while remaining focused on our core competencies in phantom design and development,” said CIRS Mark Devlin, president and CEO of CIRS.
“This partnership with CIRS allows us to promote worldwide the technology we have developed for the automated image analysis of test objects, aiming at improving QA of medical devices. It is also an opportunity for us to work with a leading manufacturer of phantoms in the scope of our international development,” said David Gibon, president and CEO of Aquilab. Aquilab also exhibited their full range of software solutions during the 2012 AAPM annual meeting.
CIRS is known worldwide for tissue simulation technology and is a manufacturer of phantoms and simulators for quantitative densitometry, calibration, quality control, and research in the field of medical imaging and radiotherapy.
Aquilab develops sophisticated software solutions for quality assurance of medical imaging and radiotherapy equipment and the evaluation of radiotherapy treatments. With more than 250 installations in Europe, Aquilab has become recognized in the market of QA software solutions for medical devices and is rapidly growing in the market of radiotherapy for the preparation and evaluation of plans and the management of clinical trials.
