Boston Scientific Corporation (Natick, MA, USA),a medical device developer and manufacturer, and Royal Philips Electronics (Amsterdam, Netherlands), a multinational health and well-being electronics company, have announced a collaboration agreement that will allow Philips to sell Boston Scientific Imaging equipment compatible with its own lab imaging systems.

The distribution agreement pertains specifically to Boston Scientific’s iLab Ultrasound Imaging System, which will now be sold with Phillips’ Allura Xper catheterization (cath) lab systems worldwide. The collaboration also gives Philips the opportunity to offer customers integrated imaging solutions that are compatible with both current and next-generation Boston Scientific imaging catheters. Physicians will have the ability to choose from a variety of imaging catheters for coronary, peripheral, and intracardiac applications that can be integrated with all major X-ray systems, including the Allura Xper system.

Boston Scientific's Imaging portfolio includes an array of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) imaging catheters. Along with the Allura Xper system, the technology offers enhanced image clarity that aids in the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of cardiac disease.

"Boston Scientific is pleased to collaborate with Philips and establish the foundation for an ongoing relationship," said Isaac Zacharias, general manager, Boston Scientific Imaging. "As premier providers of medical technology for cardiologists and electrophysiologists, this collaboration is expected to expand the ability of Boston Scientific and Philips to offer integrated solutions that improve ease of use and workflow for our worldwide customers."

Bert van Meurs, senior vice president and general manager, Interventional X-Ray, Philips Healthcare, is equally optimistic about the partnership.

"This collaboration is a further step in Philips' strategy to offer seamlessly integrated interventional solutions. Philips works with companies like Boston Scientific to continuously enhance the integrated functioning of our cath labs and further enhance the user experience," said Mr. Meurs.
