Intelerad Medical Systems (Montreal, Canada), a developer of medical imaging picture archiving and communication system (PACS) and workflow solutions, announced a strategic technology partnership with Fovia, Inc. (Palo Alto, CA, USA) to provide integrated high-definition volume rendering (HDVR) for its flagship IntelePACS and InteleOne software solutions. Posted on 11 Aug 2010
Sophisticated three-dimensional (3D) visualization is a vital component of medical care and is essential in clinical diagnosis and surgical planning. With the increasing amount of data acquired by modern techniques and the growing practice of teleradiology, it has become nearly impossible for radiologists to view and interpret thousands of images without the support of advanced 3D visualization, particularly over low-bandwidth-wide area networks.
Fovia's HDVR software offers fast and interactive central processing unit (CPU)-based real-time rendering of extremely large data sets in 3D. "Not only is Fovia HDVR hardware-agnostic while working purely with off-the-shelf CPUs, it also enables remote image distribution and is highly scalable,” said Chris Henri, founder and chief technology officer of Intelerad. "By embedding Fovia's engine, Intelerad will provide a fully-interactive volume visualization system, with no compromises in speed, quality, or usability.”
Intelerad will be providing Fovia's HDVR technology as a native tool within IntelePACS and InteleOne. "Intelerad focuses on streamlining radiology workflow and providing the best integrated user experience for radiologists,” says Ken Fineman, chief executive officer of Fovia. "With native integration of HDVR, Intelerad's customers will be able to master how they use their reading and reporting software through a single interface, including the world's most advanced visualization tools.”
Intelerad and Fovia's strategic partnership will give users the ability to make better decisions through effective utilization of imaging data. HDVR overcomes current imaging limitations by allowing fast visualization and analysis of large amounts of data and its seamless distribution to users in different locations.
