A large-format digital detector supporting both radiographic and fluoroscopic images was spotlighted at the ECR 2009 technical exhibition, which took place in March, in Vienna, Austria.

The Pixium RF4343 by Thales (Velizy, France) was showcased at ECR 2009 Thales display and by several of Thales' OEM customers as part of their latest remote-controlled table offerings. Among other Thales products at the show the Pixium Portable 3543, the first WiFi-based radiographic detector on the market, also attracted visitor interest.

The Pixium RF-4343 detector is the first that may be called "universal,” in that its design supports both fluoroscopic and radiographic imaging. All types of exams may be carried out using the same wide-field-of-view digital detector, without requiring any special handling. In wide service for over a year, the Pixium RF 4343 with its extra-flat design showed it could enable exams under optimal conditions, handling all patient types. In a recent comparison tests between several different detectors the Pixium RF-4343 prevailed, based on its high detective quantum efficiency (DQE) and low noise.

ECR 2009 also provided a stage for Thales and CMT Medical Technologies (Yoqneam, Israel) to officially announce their link-up in medical imaging. The CMT acquisition was part of Thales' growth strategy in the market for imaging solutions to the OEM market. CMT is a major supplier of imaging products to OEMs, principally in Asia and the U.S. Mr. Paul Maisonnier, Thales' Commerce and Strategies Director for Components and Subsystems commented, "CMT's expertise in digital medical imaging brings Thales a new competitive advantage allowing us to offer our OEM customers a continuum of high-technology clinical solutions ranging from detectors to imaging working consoles in radiology units.”
