Medical information technology (IT) and e-health company Pro Medicus (Richmond, VIC, Australia) has acquired Visage Imaging (Carlsbad, CA, USA), a subsidiary of Mercury Computer that specializes in three-dimensional (3D) visualization.

The all-cash deal, made for an undisclosed amount, will extend Pro Medicus into 3D and 4D post-processing of computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) images while complementing its radiology information system with the Visage picture archiving and communication systems (PACS), according to Pro Medicus CEO David Chambers.

The acquisition will also extend distribution of Pro Medicus products beyond Australia to the United States, Canada, Europe, and parts of the Middle East. The merger is expected to be added to Pro Medicus earnings in the 2010 financial year. Visage Imaging reported that 1,200 clients use its health-related visualization products, marketed either directly under the Visage brand or by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
